Which route is best for you?

Choose based on where you are starting, not on a long list of transport options. M2 is usually the simplest route from central Budapest.

Central Budapest

From Deák Ferenc tér

Take the red M2 metro toward Déli pályaudvar. Get off at Kossuth Lajos tér. Follow signs to the square and then to your entrance.

  • Direct metro; no line change
  • Useful from central hotels and metro connections
Buda side

From Batthyány tér

Board M2 toward Örs vezér tere. Leave at Kossuth Lajos tér on the Pest side. The building is across the river, but the entrance is not at Batthyány tér.

  • One metro stop
  • Do not plan to walk directly across the river here
Riverside

From the Pest Danube promenade

Take tram 2 to Kossuth Lajos tér. This is a useful surface route when the riverside tram stops suit your starting point.

  • Good for visitors already near the tram line
  • Check tram direction and service changes
With bags or limited mobility

Taxi to the Parliament area

Ask for Kossuth Lajos tér 1–3, Budapest. Your driver may need to stop a short walk away because of road restrictions.

  • Use your voucher for the exact meeting point
  • Confirm step-free access if needed
!
Most important: the building is not the meeting point.

The Parliament has a long exterior. For a standard interior visit, follow the Visitor Centre directions. If you booked a third-party guide, follow the location and time stated on that operator’s latest voucher.

Right entrance

How to find your actual check-in point

The Visitor Centre and a tour operator’s meeting point are not always the same place. Follow these steps before joining a queue.

Standard visitor entry

Parliament Visitor Centre

  1. Travel to Kossuth Lajos tér.
  2. Look for signs reading Országház, látogatóközpont (Parliament Visitor Centre).
  3. Find your scheduled entry information and pass security screening as instructed.
Booked tour or group

Use the address on the voucher

  1. Open the latest booking confirmation.
  2. Check whether you must meet a guide or collect tickets elsewhere.
  3. Arrive by the meeting time, not merely the advertised tour start.
Airport arrivals

From Budapest Airport: one bus and one metro

This route is useful when travelling light. With large bags, a taxi or hotel luggage drop may make more sense.

Public transport · Usually simplest

100E Airport Express → M2

  1. At Budapest Airport, take 100E toward Deák Ferenc tér.
  2. At Deák Ferenc tér, change to M2 toward Déli pályaudvar.
  3. Get off at Kossuth Lajos tér.
  4. Follow the directions on your ticket for the final walk.

Ticket detail: 100E requires an airport shuttle ticket or an eligible add-on. A normal metro ticket alone does not cover 100E; you also need a valid ticket or pass for the metro.

When convenience matters

Taxi from the airport

Use the authorised airport taxi service or an appropriate pre-booked transfer. Tell the driver the destination is the Hungarian Parliament Building, Kossuth Lajos tér, then check where the vehicle can legally stop.

  • Useful for travellers with luggage or young children
  • Road traffic and flight delays make arrival times variable
  • Do not schedule a tour immediately after landing
Check before you goSee the airport transfer and ticket instructions on BKK’s official website.

Other local options

When to choose tram, bus or walking

Choose the mode that removes unnecessary changes and leaves you enough time to find the correct entrance.

Tram 2

Good beside the Danube

Convenient if you are already along the Pest riverbank. Stop at Kossuth Lajos tér.

Bus 15 · Trolley 70/78

Useful on their routes

These serve the square area. Check live stop locations and any route changes before leaving.

On foot

Good from nearby hotels

Check the actual walking distance to the Visitor Centre, not just to the nearest corner of Parliament.

i
Why route numbers need checking

Public transport changes over time. Current BKK maps are more dependable than older travel blogs. Check any mention of bus 115 against the latest timetable rather than assuming it still serves your stop.

Accessibility & practical planning

Make sure the last part of the journey works for you

A nearby station is not enough when accessibility, luggage or timed entry matters.

Step-free access

Check live lift status at all stations and request accessible Parliament arrangements ahead of time if needed.

Luggage

Arrange storage for suitcases before your visit. Do not rely on being allowed to bring large bags inside.

Arrive early

Leave time to locate the entrance and complete security checks; follow any arrival time specified on your voucher.

Save your details

Keep the meeting point, tickets, ID requirements and operator contact accessible offline.
